person taking a survey

Cochrane Insurance Medicine is conducting a survey to identify priority topics and evidence gaps in the field of social and insurance medicine. This initiative aims to support better, evidence-informed decisions in practice, policy, and research. Your insights — and those of your colleagues — are essential to ensure the results reflect the real-world needs and challenges of professionals across the field.

Who we are

Cochrane Insurance Medicine is an evidence-based research group dedicated to the production, maintenance, and dissemination of high-quality evidence to support decision-making in social and insurance medicine.

What’s needed

Social and insurance medicine plays a crucial role in health and work participation. Despite this importance, it remains an under-researched discipline that could benefit from more evidence to guide practice.

Our goal

To identify critical evidence gaps and key topics for systematic reviews on behalf of the Cochrane Collaboration and the insurance medicine community.

About the survey

We are conducting a survey among key stakeholders across Europe who are involved in the practice, policy, and research of social and insurance medicine. Our goal is to identify the most relevant and urgent questions that can guide a national and international research agenda. Our key stakeholders include insurance physicians (individuals and teams), policy makers, return-to-work professionals and researchers.

Our work so far

We recently completed a preliminary survey of over fifty international experts who helped us to define nine core themes:

  • Sick leave certification
  • Disability evaluation
  • Promoting participation in the workplace
  • Return to work
  • Causality
  • Policy
  • Communication and collaboration
  • Special populations
  • Methodology

The survey generated over 200 key topics within these themes. Our next step is to prioritize these topics.

Use of findings

Survey findings will help prioritize future research and systematic reviews. Results will be shared with the Cochrane community and published in a peer-reviewed journal and on the Cochrane Insurance Medicine website.

How you can help

How you benefit

If you recruit 7+ participants from 3+ stakeholder groups, you'll receive a custom country-level analysis — useful for national discussions and policy initiatives.
